Vietnam E-Logbook App Ready for First Trials

VINATUNA, WWF Vietnam and Sea Delight have been working together to develop an easy to use Android application to allow fishers to collect on board logbook catch data at sea. The goal of the App will be to enable fishers to intuitively record information such as species caught, weight of catch, times of gear set, and exact GPS location of the fishing set.

The new Vietnam Electronic Logbook App also allows in-app photos of the catch.

Inspired and informed by some of the experiences designing and using the Crew Observer Photographic Protocol Application (COPPA) the VN E Logbook App requires minimal input from the fishers once the basic vessel and gear info are entered as “durable data”.

The data from the App is uploaded into a dedicated website at the end of the trip. Fishery Managers can access the trip data and download the entire trip record in the official Vietnam National Logbook format.

The App is already available on the Play Store and trial testing onshore and at sea will begin next week. As progress is made towards actual trials onboard fishing vessels Sea Delight will continue to report here.
